Grounds:
The study of how organisms has been central in paleontology from the beginning of this discipline. Because in paleontological research works mainly with morphospecies, most studies involve the analysis of form, defined in the framework of the morphometry and residual variation once the size has been "removed ". On the other hand, working with fossilized materials often fragmentary or distorted, raises a number of particular problems that require a specific approach. Traditionally, morphometric studies were based on quantitative study of linear variables such as width, length and height. These methods are still valid, but also in the 1990 analysis is substantially changed with the development and application of methods based on geometric coordinates of anatomical landmarks. By combining these new variables in a multivariate statistical techniques, geometric methods can capture the form without losing the spatial relationship between points, and statistically analyze large volumes of data. These methods have an increasing application in paleontology and therefore are of particular relevant to the training of graduate students and researchers.
